UK public administration's use of open source growing in importance

This may be a little difficult for our readers to understand as the real problem of OpenSource software (Free Software)  is that Politicians can't get any perks (nice dinners in top restaurants, nice visits to factories in exotic countries), if they choose softare readily available for free on the Internet.

For example I have a full "Office" style program that readers would pay well over £300 for which is available for free downloading from the Internet (LibraOffice). And I can open, and save in a Microsoft format!

Brussels threatens to sue Britain to let in 'benefit tourists'

Ministers fear the move could leave taxpayers handing out as much as £2.5  billion to EU nationals, including out-of-work “benefit tourists”, a new cost that could wreck Coalition plans for welfare reform.

The good, the bad and the ugly is a very apt description of life in Zimbabwe this week. The good has come in the form of the fast approaching rainy season. Temperatures have soared over the last few days and the first rain clouds have started to gather on the horizon.

Also, although I don't personally believe in any religion, I am tolerant of others who need to believe in their religion and am happy to attend church for weddings and funerals, although it is mainly the latter now that I have reached my seventies!

What should we do to lessen our alcohol intake?

This is a problem that Governments have been mulling over for a considerable time but find it difficult to mull over.

Putting the price up is not really a good option, especially with the hard times we know are looming over the horizons.

There are two areas here, the people who drink in the street, and people who drink at home. We need a two pronged attack as these are two different cases. I will address the latter first.

Some very good advice for surviving in the near future

I saw the following video on YouTube this morning and have to say, it made me wonder why an official was giving this advice out.

This then led me to wonder whether I should follow the advice within the UK and whether these officials knew something that the rest of the public weren't aware of. Naturally it could be a fake but as yet, I can't find a website exposing it though.

Finally I notice this wasn't issued to YouTube by NASA but was sent up by one of their employees, or more probably a friend of one of the members of NASA.

The Eurozone, here is who you should blame.

It is looking increasingly likely that the Euro is going to destroy people all over the EU, whether they live in an EU country in the Euro or not.


This includes Britain.

When it does go "belly up" we, in Britain (we can't call it Great Britain whilst we are in the EU) will suffer even more than we did under the Blair and Brown government.

But who should we blame?

Journey to Strasbourg to see the EU Parliament before it all goes belly up!

Having travelled with Lyndda Robson last October to Brussels, Ghent and Bruges, with a trip to the European Parliament, we decided to travel once more with her as we wanted to see the Strasbourg Parliament before the European Union faded into oblivion.  

Lyndda works for the London UKIP MEP, Gerard Batten and the coach trip consists of UKIP supporters who are too wise to believe any promises by the major parties on holding a referendum on staying in the EU or leaving. 

In fact our membership has shot up since many Conservatives have found out that the first syllable of their name is what the party continues to do to its supporters! This year Lyndda arranged a five day trip to Strasbourg and I thought I would write up the trip in case other UKIP members may want to come with us to the continent next year.   

£1.3 billion Rogue Trader... heads should roll.

It is absolutely criminal if this Ghanian trader is the only one in the dock.

I am not saying he should get the book thrown at him but I do think his immediate manager should also be in the dock, and further more, I think every manager above his immediate manager - and I mean all up to and including the bank's UK CEO should be fired without any compensation.

Jamie Oliver is going the growing hordes not just in England, but all over the EU.

"True Finns" formed in 1995 is now the main opposition party in government and is led by Timo Juhani Soini. In the Nederlands,

"The Party for Freedom" was formed in 2005, and already is the third largest party. It is run by Geert Wilder who recently found fame in the UK by an attempt to ban him because of his stance on the Muslims.

Interestingly, most of the opposition comes from Northern Europe although there are many disenchanted voters in the South. They are just less well organised.

Our debt is now standing at £3.589 trillion and we are still borrowing £1 in every £4 we spend.

When one reads that Cameron, with the help of Clegg, is borrowing £1 in every £4 they are spending, it is pretty obvious to the "man in the street" that the government is failing us.

Labour state that we are cutting too much so that means Labour would borrow more than £1 in every £4 they spend which is even worse.

So, Joe Public, whichever of the three main parties you vote for in the 2015 elections, you are going to be saddled with more, and more, and more debt. Isn't it about time you thought about voting for some of the smaller parties.

No, it won't change things immediately, but look what could be  achieved if a tenth of you voted for small parties. Just 10% mind you.

London - Muammar Gaddafi's regime warned of "dire consequences" for relations between Libya and Britain if the convicted Lockerbie bomber died in a Scottish jail, secret files released on Sunday showed.

In the latest revelations from intelligence documents obtained by media and rights groups in Tripoli, senior British officials feared Gaddafi "might seek to extract vengeance" if the cancer-stricken Abdelbaset Ali Mohmet al-Megrahi was not released.

The most seriously wounded soldier to survive injuries sustained in Afghanistan is to get only half the £1 million compen-sation he is entitled to because of a Government cap.

Lance-Bombardier Ben Parkinson lost both legs, fractured four vertebrae and suffered brain injuries when his patrol was hit by a landmine.

He was initially offered just £150,000 compensation for his injuries – while at the same time an RAF typist received £484,000 for a repetitive strain injury to her thumb. The Ministry of Defence then reviewed Ben’s case and admitted that his compensation should be £1,087,000.
